2017 In Review

Happy New Year!

Now that 2017 has come to a close, we wanted to take a moment and look back on a wonderful year. From product releases, to SmartBear Academy classes, to attending conferences (and putting on our very first user conference!), 2017 was a year of global growth with 175 new SmartBears joining our team, the opening of our APAC HQ and the expansion of our EMEA HQ.  Check out some of our favorite moments from 2017.

The Year in Product Releases: 

January:
TestComplete 12.2 
TestComplete 2.2 introduces an on-demand cloud testing lab, powered by CrossBrowserTesting.

March:
SwaggerHub integrates with IBM Cloud
The integration allows development teams working with SwaggerHub to deploy APIs directly to IBM Bluemix with minimal configurations.

New Swagger UI and Swagger Editor 
The new Swagger Editor and UI have been optimized for speed and reliability, introduce extensibility and customization capabilities, and now offer a unified design and documentation experience for APIs written in the OpenAPI Specification.

Collaborator 11.0 introduces integration with GitLab
Collaborator 11.0 offers an integration with GitLab and enhanced integrations with GitHub and BitBucket, making it the only peer code and document review tool to integrate with the three largest repository management solutions.

April:
New SwaggerHub interface
The new design makes it easier to navigate and work across all your APIs and Domains.

May:
ServiceV Pro 2.0 introduces integration with Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) Virtualization
The integration speeds development and testing by reducing dependencies on relational databases.

June:
AlertSite adds native API endpoint monitors
AlertSite’s API endpoint monitors check the response time, response status code and content for both your own and third party APIs.

July:
SwaggerHub integrates with Apigee
SwaggerHub’s integration with Apigee enables teams to quickly and easily deploy and sync their API definitions with Apigee’s Edge API management platform .

SwaggerHub introduces Projects
SwaggerHub Projects offer an entirely new way to organize your Swagger workflow, and to better manage the people that are involved in helping you build world-class APIs with Swagger.

CrossBrowserTesting launches a new UI
CrossBrowserTesting gets a facelift, making the tool easier to use than ever.

August:
SwaggerHub, Swagger Editor and Swagger UI support OpenAPI Specification 3.0
This allows teams to leverage the latest OAS 3.0 in their design and documentation workflow for new APIs and seamlessly convert existing APIs to OAS 3.0.

Collaborator introduces new feature, “Remote System Links,” to improve JIRA integration.
This enhanced support for JIRA Issue linking means a fast and simple navigation for team members as they move between Collaborator and JIRA.

October:
Collaborator redesigns integration with Visual Studio and Team Foundation Server
These integrations allow teams to seamlessly conduct thorough code reviews without leaving their IDE.

ReadyAPI 2.2 supports OpenAPI Specification 3.0
ReadyAPI now supports OAS 3.0 for functional, security and load testing as well as API virtualization, making SmartBear the first to support OAS 3.0 across the entire API lifecycle.

November:
AlertSite introduces PrivateNode
PrivateNode for AlertSite is a lightweight synthetic performance monitoring solution that can be deployed anywhere, on any infrastructure.

SoapUI 5.4 
The release for the open source tool includes an updated Apache Common-collection library and an updated Java version.

December:
CrossBrowserTesting announces an integration with Applitools.
CrossBrowserTesting’s integration with Applitools, an automated visual testing and monitoring product, is designed to shorten testing cycles by making codeless visual testing faster and easier.

Not only did we get to attend all sorts of events, but we also hosted our very first user conference, SmartBear Connect 2017 in September. We had over 275 customers attend to get hands-on product training, hear how experts are using our tools in innovative ways, and network with one another. Lots happened within our walls in 2017 as well! Check out some of our biggest #lifeatsb moments:

We opened a new development center in our Galway, Ireland office.

We got acquired by Francisco Partners in May.

We opened a new APAC Headquarters in Melbourne, Australia in July.  

We welcomed Bryce Chicoyne to our team as Chief Financial Officer and Global Operations Lead in August.

Our Global Headquarters in Somerville, MA was featured in BostInno’s Office Envy series.

Christian Wright joined us as Executive Vice President and General Manager for API Business in September.

Jennifer Mahoney, Vice President of Customer Success, was featured in VentureFizz’s Lead(h)er series.

We hired 148 new employees this year, and we’re still growing!

SmartBear Academy:

We held 204 classes this year, and trained over 13,000 customers this year alone. We’re looking forward to more classes to come in 2018! For those of you who don’t know, SmartBear Academy is our free virtual product training classes led by our Product Owners, Sales Engineers, and trusted Service Partners. Our complimentary training spreads across topics in Automated Testing, API Functional Testing, Code Review, Performance Profiling, API Mocking, Performance Monitoring, Test Management, Load Testing, and more.
