    Another way to save money is to give employees an allowance for staying with a friend in the city they are visiting. For instance, you can give them 40 dollars a night, which would incentivize them to stay with a friend, but it would be much cheaper than staying at a hotel.

    Phil, Good addition. Years ago, I worked for a company that gave us $50 a night if we stayed with friends or family.

    Yeah, never hurts to ask. It wasn’t exactly expensive, but I displayed at the Maker Faire in North Carolina, and got in free with a couple people that were helping me.  
    I also sometimes ask for discounts on stuff related to my website. As it’s all about robotics, CNC machining, and other hobby engineering stuff, companies are often happy to work with me in exchange for the publicity. I think most of them have bee quite happy with the results!
